Interesting to learn that Great Britain just generated (by UK standards at least) record-breaking levels of solar power during the summer of 2024.
Like us, you're probably thinking, how can that be, when we had less-than-ideal weather conditions. But figures indicate a 24% increase in solar output compared to last year, surpassing the previous record set in 2022 by 16%.
This surge aligns with the new government's ambitious plan to triple solar energy capacity by 2030. It's also recently approved three major solar farms in eastern England, previously blocked by Tory ministers. These projects, along with potential approval of Britain's largest solar farm, will significantly boost capacity.
Additionally, the push for a "rooftop revolution" aims to equip millions more homes with solar panels, reducing energy bills and advancing the UK's clean energy goals.
We're fans of solar this end, and even send some of our excess supply back to the grid, so are bouyed by this news.
It seems that despite the challenges of NIMBY-ism, the UK solar industry seems to be going from strength to strength, driving down costs and emissions whilst increasing energy independence.
